Caudan waterfront; found in the city of Port Louis; was given its name after a famous person known as Jean Dominique Michel de Caudan. The peninsula called Le Caudan was created around a fosil coral islet, hosting a powder magazine, an astronomic and meteorological observatory, quays, warehouses and various small enterprises over the last 250 years. The daily routine of this popular harbor followed the pace of the sugar industry until the creation of the Bulk Sugar Terminal in 1980. From these 150 years of millions of sugar bags transiting by boat, train or trucks, carried by hundreds of hands, only a few old walls still stand today to resonate with the soul…

Citadel Fort
It is a fort found on the top of a hill called Petite Montagne at an altitude of around 100 meters. It was designed by the Colonel Cunningham and the Indian and African slaves contributed in its construction. Also known as Fort Adelaide after the wife of William IV dating the British rule, it is located at a strategic point with a clear view on the harbor and the city as it’s purpose was to inform the British army of any approaching enemy. It is now a national monument offering stunning views.
Port Louis Bazaar & Chinatown
Port Louis city is dominated by the Citadelle (old fort) that is situated atop Port-Louis mountain range. Famous for its long pond of giant water lilies (Victoria amazonica), the garden was first constructed by Pierre Poivre (1719 – 1786) in 1770, and it covers an area of around 37 hectares. It is known for its spice garden and unique collection of 85 varieties of palms from Central America, Asia, Africa and the islands around the Indian Ocean.
